NPI Manufacturing Engineer (Hardware/RF)
La Jolla, California
Job description
About Us : At MaXentric Technologies, we develop high-performance electronics and advanced wireless systems for the defense, medical, and commercial industries. For over 20 years, our engineering teams have focused on problem-solving and innovation to deliver cutting-edge technologies that create a safer, smarter, and more connected world. You will be joining us at a critical and exciting stage as we take our latest generation of complex radio systems from advanced prototypes to scalable, high-quality production.
The Role : We are looking for a hands-on New Product Introduction (NPI) Manufacturing Engineer to lead the transition of our advanced radio systems from prototype to production. In this role, you will manage a hybrid manufacturing model: overseeing outsourced sub-assemblies with US-based partners, while designing and scaling our in-house final assembly and testing lines.
Because we build highly complex systems in low volumes (10s to 100s of units) across multiple product lines, we need an agile engineer who can build flexible, repeatable processes and bridge the gap between our R&D and production teams.
What You Will Do
In-House Assembly Setup: Design the physical layout, workflow, and stations for our in-house final assembly line. Create clear, step-by-step Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and build instructions for production technicians.
Drive NPI (High-Mix, Low-Volume): Lead the manufacturing launch across multiple radio product lines, ensuring a smooth transition from prototype to initial production batches.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to review designs and suggest tweaks that simplify assembly, reduce cost, and improve yield.
Collaborative Testing: Partner with our Test Engineering team to seamlessly integrate RF and electronic functional testing into the final assembly process, ensuring every unit meets strict quality standards.
Domestic Supply Chain Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage US-based Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and component suppliers for outsourced sub-assemblies. (Travel is minimal and strictly domestic).
Tooling & Fixturing: Specify, design, or procure the necessary jigs, fixtures, and tooling required for efficient in-house assembly.
What We Are Looking For
Experience: 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, specifically in an NPI capacity for complex electronics, hardware, or RF systems.
Agile Manufacturing: Proven experience in a high-mix, low-volume (HMLV) manufacturing environment. You know how to build flexible processes that can adapt to different product lines.
Technical Chops: Strong understanding of electro-mechanical assembly, PCBA manufacturing processes, and hardware integration.
Vendor Management: Experience working with domestic suppliers, machine shops, and contract manufacturers.
Cross-Functional Teamwork: A track record of working collaboratively with R&D, Test Engineers, and floor technicians.
Tooling: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for designing basic assembly fixtures and tooling.
RF Familiarity (Bonus): Familiarity working around radio frequency (RF) products or wireless communications hardware is highly preferred.
NOTE: Due to the nature of our military work, U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required for this position.
Compensation & Benefits
Good Faith Pay Range: $75,000 – $130,000 per year. This range represents the good faith estimate of the salary MaXentric reasonably expects to pay for this position upon hire. Final compensation will be based on the candidate's specific skills, experience, and geographic location.
Total Compensation: This role is eligible for Annual Performance Bonuses
Phantom Stock options
Health & Wellness: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
Retirement: 401(k) plan
Time Off: 152 hours of PTO per year, which includes the California-compliant sick leave
