Story

When Dr. Paul Theilmann started working at MaXentric in 2011, he brought with him a research passion for biomedical devices. After Paul’s arrival, MaXentric managers Kamran Mahbobi and Houman Ghajari began to expand the company’s expertise beyond radar and wireless technologies by adding biomedical electronics. MaXentric’s Biomedical Group was formed in 2012 through an SBIR grant focused on wireless devices for complicated military triage scenarios.

MaXentric’s Biomedical Group continued to add members and began work on DepLife™ in 2020. DepLife™ is MaXentric’s premier radar-based sensor device that provides first responders with a fast and efficient tool to quickly scan through a building’s walls to gain life-saving situational awareness. DepLife™ is a portable radar system that can detect different types of movement through walls to improve situational awareness for first responders.

Technology

DepLife™ uses Ultrawideband (UWB) radar and a series of detection algorithms to detect movement and more importantly, discern the kind of movement. These algorithms make DepLife™ unique compared to other through wall radars; the detection algorithms allow users to distinguish between organic and inorganic movement, the difference between a person, or an inanimate object such as a ceiling fan.

Provides movement detection through drywall, siding, and stucco.
Has a range of up to 30 feet.
Applications include investigating human trafficking, barricaded perpetrators, and hostage situations.
Requires minimal training.
Portable and easy to set up.
